Little Women - Book report - Vítor

Little Women
"Little women" is a book that talks about four sisters who are living a dificult year because their father is in a war and they don't have a lot of money. The girls want their father celebrating the Christmas with them, but it doesn't happen. The four women are: Meg, 17; Jo, 15; Beth, 13 and the little Amy. One day they're invited to a party. In this party Jo meets Laurie and they become friends. Another day Amy asks Beth for candy, so she brings it to school and the teacher hits her, because she mustn't bring candy to school. Near next Christmas year's, in November, the girls' father is sick and he's in Washington, so their mother goes there and leaves the girls. Beth visits their neighbors, the Hummels, and there's a sick child there. He has sacarlet fever and dies. Beth gets scarlet fever and her mother goes home for taking care of her. In Christmas Day the girls' father goes home from the war, Beth is a little bit better and John Brooks, a family's friend, asks Beth for marry him and she accepts. You should read this book, because it's very good and talks about family relationship and love, things we have in our lives. But I don't like when Meg accepts getting married with John because she is too young and in her life maybe she could find the "right person"... But read this !!!

TELEPHONE

The telephone was invented by :Innocenzo Manzetti , Antonio Meucci, Johann Philipp Reis, Elisha Gray, Alexander Graham Bell, and Thomas Edison, among others ( they are the ones who were credited by doing the first work on the telephone ).

It's used until today for talking with people are far away. The telephone is a telecomunication device that transmits and receives eletronically or digitally sound ( calls ). When someone is called, his telephone starts to make sounds ( rings ). Before it, Morse Code was used by people to comunicate each other.

Telephone is very important actually and was very important before too ! If it wouldn't invented, we won't have cell phones and probabilly computer, television, etc. And we would use Morse Code to ask my friend about today's homework, or tell my mom i'm sick ! It means:

Thank you, Innocenzo Manzetti, Antonio Meucci, Johann Philipp Reis, Elisha Gray, Alexander Graham Bell, and Thomas Edison, among others for inventing the telephone !!

The Road Throught The Hills

Jamie studies architecture and on his vacations he went to Melbury, in south of England. He wanted to see a church there. When he arrived there, he saw in the wall "Church Sreet".He thought the church was in that street. He walked along the street. An old woman was there.Jamie said " Er, can I help you ?", andthe woman said " Of course ! Let's go inside". Jamie went into a room and the woman told him to wait there. The room looked like a child's bedroom. Then he saw a photograph with only hills, fields, a few trees, a white gate and a path. Jamie asked her where is the church. She gave him a map. The word 'church' was written at the end of the path. He got out of the house and followedthe path to the church according to the map. But he couldn't see anything like a church. "This map is wrong !", he thought. But he recognized where he was. Was the same scene as in the photograph. And suddenly he turned around and someone came out of the trees and took a photograph of him. Jamie recognized the photographer's face ! It was the old woman of Church Street. He got back to the pub. Ted, the landlord was behind the bar, and they started to talk. Jamie told Ted the strange experience with the woman. Ted told him that he wasn't the first who couldn't find the church and that street wasn't Church Street at all. That was Churchill Street and someone keeps covering the last letters. Ted told him the woman is called Mary Walgrave, and she has lived alone for more than 40 years. Jamie asked about the child's bedroom. Ted said that Mary's son died and gave him an old newspaper with the news about Laurence's death ( Laurence is the child ). The next mornig Jamie remembered the sad story of Mary, he felt sorry and went to her house to say goodbye. He entered in Laurence's bedroom and it was full of light, that he could see five photographs of the hills with one boy in each one. Was diferent boys with diferent ages, one older than the other, and the oldest was Jamie. The photographs told the story. Mary looks at the wall and see a boy getting older where her real son had died. Jamie got out of the room and saw Mary sleeping, then he left a photo of him as a child to leave Mary with a happier memory

The Music of the Forest - Luíza

It was a wearm evening in September 1951.An American couple,Larry and June Adams, were sitting on the patio of the Simla Forest Hotel in northern India. There were tall, thin trees around the edge of the patio. A line of paper lanterns hung from the trees. By the light of these lanterns a man sat playing the piano. His name was Mr. Lal. He was the owner of the hotel and he liked to play to his guests in the evening. Most of them enjoyed Mr. Lal's Music, except Larry Adams. Infact, Larry was in India because he wanted to kill a tiger. And he left the hotel every day with his gun and went into the forest. But now he felt angry and bored, and Mr. Lal's strange music was making him nervous.

Larry and June sat down in the that to around the piano. Mr Lal smiled at his guests and continued playing. [...]
After a wile, he stopped playing, and looked Larry. Larry wanted to look away but he couldn't. He was held by the power of Mr Lal's dark brow eyes. He felt their mysterious energy burning into him like red fire. Mr. Lal started to talk with him, but he ignored everything he said. Larry decided to bed.
Later, June went to talk with Mr. Lal. They talked very much about the attitude of Larry. Until he asked to see her drawings. He adored ! June sayed that he could stay with those drawings. He accepted.

June Adams did sleep well that night. But Larry did not. He had terrible dreams. At three o'clock in the morning he woke up. Their bedroom was above the patio. The window was open. He Could hear the sounds of the forest outside. He closed his eyes, but that didn't help. He imagined the animals pulling him through the darks, singing trees. He closed the door of the bathroom. The sounds were quieter and he begam to fell better.

At nine o'clock the next morning Mrs Adams was standing on the patio with Mr Lal. She was saying goodbye. June was happy because Larry was beginning to show interest on other things. Mr Lal looked up at the lanterns hanging from the trees above his head. June looked up too. And there one fixed to the outside of each lantern. She imagined their shadown at night, thrown by the light of the lanterns.
